In the Riebeek Valley most certainly, olives and wine go hand in hand. Many local farms and wine estates offer free tastings, something you should never miss out on. It is incredible as to what sensations are achieved from olives. One of the most famous is the Olive Boutique in Riebeek Kasteel, a mere 15 minutes’ walk from Julu Guest House. Be welcomed by owners, Derek and Susan to taste everything from olives to olive oil and vinegars, hear their stories of how these products have won premium SA awards.
As for wine, you are spoilt for choice. Visit anyone or more of the famous wine estates, like Allesverloren and Kloovenburg, where guests can enjoy a bouquet of South Africa’s best local and export wines.

There are two excellent options which are self-guided trails near Malmesbury, and the Piket-Bo-Berg trails, which come highly recommended.

There is a dedicated Swartland Birding Route that visitors and avid birdwatchers will love. It begins some 50 kilometres north of Cape Town comprising Malmesbury (south), Darling and Yzerfontein (west), Moorreesburg and Koringberg (north), and Riebeek Valley (east).

Centrally located in Riebeek Kasteel, the RK Contemporary Art Gallery is almost an “International” find in the Riebeek Valley.
Since opening its doors in 2017, the gallery has featured many incredible artworks by both local and international artists.
The artworks are curated and presented to visitors through a series of carefully planned exhibitions held throughout the year. This is not something to miss out on, so watch the space for the like of Solo.
